Mesquite, TX – July 24, 2020 – The City of Mesquite is starting the search for a new Fire Chief. The Mesquite Fire Chief will plan, direct and review the activities and operations of the City of Mesquite Fire Department (MFD). They will also coordinate assigned activities with the City Manager, Police Chief and other City departments and outside agencies to provide highly responsible support to the City Manager and the City. The Fire Chief must have ten years of increasingly responsible command and supervisory experience with a Local, State or Federal Fire Agency, including five years of administrative responsibility at the rank of Deputy/Assistant Chief or above in an agency with 100 or more fire personnel.
Qualified candidates must also have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in fire science, public administration or subject field related to the position. A Master’s Degree as well as successful completion of the NFA Executive Fire Officer Program is preferred.
Chief Mark Kerby will retire on Sept. 30 to begin a new role as the Special Projects Director for the City. Kerby has served has Fire Chief since 2003.
