Mesquite’s Butterfly Trail at Paschall Park has undergone a metamorphosis.
Keep Mesquite Beautiful (KMB) and City of Mesquite leaders officially opened the transformed trail on June 21 which features a new sculpture, new educational signage, pathways lined with native Texas Blackland Prairie plants, whimsical butterfly benches, a vibrant mural and a refreshed pollinator garden.
“This trail is more than a path – it’s a celebration of renewal, resilience, and natural beauty,” said KMB Executive Director Jonathan Chitty. “This project never would have taken flight without help from so many people. We are truly grateful for the dedicated support of our KMB board members, partners, sponsors and volunteers.”
Chitty noted that the transformation was a collaborative effort – from the custom entrance sign designed and built by students in West Mesquite High School’s welding program, to step-by-step coordination with the City’s Parks and Recreation and Traffic Engineering departments.
The project was sponsored by Talia, Dallas Regional Medical Center, Mesquite Arts Center, Mesquite Garden Club, Mesquite Arts Council, Revolution, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, Anna and Dane Renfroe, Dr. Terri White, Carley Newlin of Caldwell Banker, the Strasert Family, Jinzhu and Anthony Aguilar, Lowe’s, Valspar, Lynn Lloyd, Metropolitan Infrastructures, and DFW Pressure Washer.
Nestled within Paschall Park at 1001 New Market Road, the Butterfly Trail is a certified Monarch waystation by MonarchWatch and is a certified butterfly habitat by Texas Discovery Gardens.
