Grab your gear and get ready to catch some fun with the City of Mesquite’s Family Fish on Saturday, April 26.

The free event for all ages will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at City Lake Park, 200 Parkview St. The first 100 children ages 17 and under will receive a free fishing rod while supplies last. Fishing bait, hooks and other materials will not be provided. Participants are welcome to keep any fish caught. 

Family Fish attendees can also compete for prizes in competitions for the shortest and longest fish at 10 and 11 a.m.

City Lake Park, which is part of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Neighborhood Fishin’ program, is stocked several times a year with catfish from April through November and rainbow trout from November to March. Stocking takes place every two to four weeks.
