FAA, NTSB take over investigation of small plane crash

3/13/25 as of 11:30 a.m.: This morning a flight left Mesquite Metro Airport at 7:40 a.m. and crashed only a few seconds after takeoff. Mesquite Police and Fire Departments initially responded to the incident in a wooded area near E. Cartwright Road and Lawson Road.

The accident resulted in the fatality of the pilot, the only person onboard the Cessna CitationJet. Identification of the pilot is pending until the family has been notified. No damage to residences or other structures near the site was reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are now investigating the plane crash.

All aircraft accidents in the U.S. are investigated by the FAA for aviation safety issues, facts and circumstances. The FAA shares its findings to the NTSB, which is in charge of the investigation and will provide any updates.

There appears to be one fatality of the only person onboard, the pilot. Initial reports are that there was no damage to residences or other structures near the site.
