Mesquite, TX - April 30, 2019 - The Mesquite City Council has called for a special election on May 4 to ask citizens to consider a proposition to sell more than 171 acres of designated park land located outside of the Mesquite city limits and to use the proceeds for enhancing the City of Mesquite park and recreation system. The property is designated as park land, and state law requires voter approval for the sale of any property that is designated as park land by a city. The City of Balch Springs currently has the property designated for residential development in its Future Land Use Plan portion of its Comprehensive Plan.
