ORIGINAL POST:

Hold on to your hats! Mesquite will host a trio of rodeo-themed events on April 5 across the City to celebrate its Western roots.

Join us for the 67th annual Rodeo Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. The parade will start on Beltline Road at Newsom Road and will continue through Downtown Mesquite.

The Rodeo Parade celebrates Mesquite’s Western heritage and community pride. The event dates back to the 1950s, when the owners of the rodeo rode their horses into Downtown Mesquite and invited the community to the new rodeo facility.

This year’s parade theme is “Stirrup Some Fun!” Participants are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the Old West by decorating their floats in a Western style. Mesquite Poteet High School alumnus and NFL veteran Malik Jefferson will serve as the parade Grand Marshal.

The parade entry fee is $40, and registration ends April 4. Entries are open, but not limited to, local civic clubs, community groups, sports teams, school clubs and businesses. Livestock groups are also invited to participate and can waive their entry fee by contacting funmakers@cityofmesquite.com or calling the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office at 972-216-6260.

Following the excitement of the parade, head on over to the Mesquite Arena for the World Senior Professional Bull Riders Bullriding Spring Fest.

The action-packed event will take place from 12-2 p.m., with doors opening at 11 a.m. on April 5. Visit Mesquite is a sponsor of the WSPBR Bullriding Spring Fest, highlighting Mesquite’s title as the “Rodeo Capital of Texas.” Tickets are available for $10 for kids and $20 for adults. Visit www.MesquiteArena.com for details and to buy tickets.

April 5 also marks the opening of the Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market at Front Street Station.

Patrons will discover a wide variety of local goods at the Farmers Market including artisanal products, locally grown produce, baked goods, bath and body products and more. The market, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through November, also features food vendors and musical performances. Learn more at www.DowntownMesquiteTX.com.
