Downtown Mesquite Manager, Beverly Abell said, “Christmas on the Square ushers in the holiday season for so many families who come to the historic heart of the city to enjoy holiday cheer downtown. This event could not occur without the partnership of our downtown volunteers and businesses, great partners such as the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD) and many supportive City of Mesquite departments.”
At 6 p.m., children will be invited to join City Council, Santa and Mrs. Claus in lighting up the Christmas tree and Heritage Square for the first time this season. The holiday event will also include performances by MISD and Stage Door Dance. Mrs. Claus has partnered with MISD’s Read Play Talk program and will be reading a Christmas story to children. There will also be food vendors, local vendors from the Downtown Mesquite Farmer’s Market and free cocoa and cookies for the first 500 guests, thanks to MISD’s culinary program.
The Mesquite Police Department will also be at the event, collecting toys and donations for their annual Santa Cop program, which provides assistance during the Christmas season to disadvantaged kids and families in Mesquite and the surrounding communities.
