Mesquite, TX – Nov. 19, 2021 – With the holiday shopping season approaching, the City of Mesquite has launched its annual #ShopMesquite campaign to ask its residents to shop and dine in the community to help support the local economy and businesses. The efforts include promoting the Shop Local webpage that features an electronic rolodex of businesses located in Mesquite with featured stories, videos and more on places to shop, eat and experience in Mesquite. The holiday shopping season kicks-off Nov. 27 with Small Business Saturday in Downtown Mesquite to support local businesses and the last day of the Mesquite Farmer’s Market.
Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. said, “The more our residents shop and dine in Mesquite during the holidays, the more their money goes to work in Mesquite. Shopping and dining in Mesquite help so many of our small business owners who are still recovering from the impacts of the pandemic. Our sales tax revenue makes up about 25% of the City’s general fund budget. That fund helps pay for public safety, parks and recreation programs, animal control services, street repairs, libraries and so many more quality-of-life services.”
The City has “Shop Mesquite – Support our Local Businesses” signs in street medians throughout the community and a special Holiday Shopping Alternative Routes webpage to help the community spend less time in traffic and more time enjoying the holidays. The City also lists festive ways to enjoy the holidays in Mesquite including the Nov. 30 Christmas on the Square Tree Lighting, A Christmas Story presented by the Mesquite Community Theatre Dec. 3 - 19 and the 35th Annual Christmas in the Park Dec. 4 - 5.
