Mesquite, TX – November 16, 2021 – Keep Mesquite Beautiful (KMB), Inc. concluded their 2021 Yard of the Month program, and announced two winners for the month of October. They are the residential properties owned by Donny and Janet Hall in District 6, and Cindy and Brian Leonard in District 1. Winners are chosen by members of the KMB Landscape Committee and the City of Mesquite’s Environmental Code staff.
Selket Daese, Keep Mesquite Beautiful Executive Director, said, “The Yard of the Month program is one component of the City’s Clean City Initiative. It helps instill pride in our neighborhoods and inspires property owners to enhance the appearance of their landscape areas and overall aesthetic appeal.” Selket explained that winners are chosen based on the criteria of the property having no visible code violations and is one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the neighborhood area.
Residential or commercial properties are eligible to receive the Yard of the Month award once in a 12-month period and may be personally or professionally maintained. Selket elaborated that KMB considers all properties located within the city limits of Mesquite.
The Clean City Initiative is a program that combines the efforts of several City departments and programs into a unified strategy to improve the appearance of our community. It combines the efforts of Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Mesquite Parks and Recreation, Environmental Code and Solid Waste to promote litter prevention, beautification projects and improved regulations. It includes community education, enforcement, and engagement.
The Yard of the Month program will resume next summer. Each month, from June through October, new winners will be chosen. To learn more about the award, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/YardoftheMonth.
