Mesquite, TX – October 6, 2021 – More than 500 volunteers collected over 200 bags of trash, containing over 4,300 pounds of litter from locations around Mesquite, including parks, neighborhoods and retail shopping areas as a part of Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) semi-annual cleanup event, Trash Bash, on Sept. 25. Twenty-seven volunteer groups and 546 volunteers came together to donate their time and help clean up the city.
Selket Daese, Volunteer and Keep Mesquite Beautiful Program Administrator, said, “We are so grateful for the help of our volunteers. This event is successful due in large part to the participation of community and the groups that always come out to support the goal of keeping Mesquite looking good.”
In September, Mayor Bruce Archer recognized the months of September and October 2021 as North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge Months in the City of Mesquite, encouraging all residents, businesses, community groups and service organizations to participate by engaging in litter cleanup events and activities during these months. Mesquite has also added new ways for the community to be a part of the Clean City Initiative, a program that combines the efforts of several City departments and programs into a unified strategy to improve the appearance of our community. Volunteers can purchase official safety vests to wear during their cleanup efforts with all proceeds supporting Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. Groups can now select a designated area in Mesquite through the Adopt-A-Spot program at www.cityofmesquite.com/AdoptASpot and volunteer to keep it litter free throughout the year while receiving special acknowledgements for their efforts.
