Mesquite, TX – September 14, 2021 – The City of Mesquite’s Sustainability Program Coordinator, Kathy Fonville, has been elected to be the chair of the Resource Conservation Council (RCC). The RCC’s primary responsibility is to provide support and advice to the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Executive Board on methods to conserve, recover and recycle valuable resources and to provide proper handling and disposal of non-recoverable waste materials.
The RCC is the regions solid waste advisory committee made up of 36 committee members, including individuals from local government, the private sector and environmental and public interest groups.
Kathy has been with the City of Mesquite for 14 years and is responsible for developing and administering environmental and sustainability initiatives for both municipal operations and the community. Kathy is passionate about creating innovative solutions and strategies to promote water conservation and the efficient use of water, air quality and emissions reduction, energy efficiency, waste diversion and recycling and developing projects that have significant impacts in improving the sustainability and efficiency of City operations.
Kathy attended Baylor University for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies and a Master of Science in Environmental Studies.
