Mesquite, TX – June 8, 2021 – The City of Mesquite has launched a new webpage to assist those who want to consider filing their candidacy to serve on the City Council. The first day to file is July 17 and the last day to file is August 16. The 2021 City election, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places 1 – 6, will be held on November 2.
The Mayor is elected at-large, to serve a two-year term and is limited to four consecutive two-year terms. Councilmembers are elected to fill Places 1 – 6 to serve a two-year term by voters who live within the respective districts. Councilmembers may serve for four consecutive two-year terms and four consecutive two-year terms as Mayor, for a total of eight consecutive two-year terms combined, without a two-year break in service.
October 4 is the last day to register to vote in November 2 election. Early voting is October 18 – 29. The City contracts with Dallas County and Kaufman County Election Departments to conduct joint elections along with other entities.
