Mesquite, TX – May 13, 2021 – Mesquite has again earned the highest rating possible for fire protection of a community as determined by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The Texas Department of Insurance, through the State Fire Marshal’s Office, notified the Mesquite Fire Department that the city had a split ISO rating of Class 01/1X. The range is 1 (superior) to 10. Mesquite has had the highest ISO rating since 2006.
Fire Chief Russell Wilson said, “This public protection classification is great news for our community. Not only does this validate that Mesquite has superior fire suppression services, it also helps property owners potentially save money on their insurance premiums.” He shared that to find out how Mesquite’s ISO rating affects their insurance costs, property owners should contact their insurer. And if they are shopping for insurance, they should consider contacting several insurers in the community.
Wilson explained the split class rating is a Class 01 for properties located within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant and five miles of a fire station, with the Class 1X being for properties farther than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant but still within five miles of a fire station.
The Mesquite Fire Department currently has seven fire stations, with plans to build an eighth station by 2025 along IH 20 in Kaufman County as part of the massive development growth occurring in that area of the city called Trinity Pointe Mesquite.
