Mesquite, TX – May 11, 2021 – The City of Mesquite is producing video updates hosted by members of the City Council in the districts they represent. Each video will focus on various issues and topics in their district as well as news items that affect the entire city. The most recent district video is hosted by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dan Aleman, District 6. In the video, Councilmember Aleman shares updates on Mesquite’s new Vanguard High School and the Solterra Development.
Councilmember Aleman meets with the Dean of Schools and spotlights Mesquite’s sixth high school which is set to open in the fall. Vanguard High School, 4201 Faithon P. Lucas Sr. Boulevard, will be made up of four schools, the School of Health Science, the School of Technology, the School of Engineering and the School of Construction. The goal is for future students to do an internship during their senior year with local business partners. Vanguard High School will have over 55 industry certifications that students will be able to get by the time they have completed high school.
The Solterra Development will bring over 3,900 new homes to Mesquite and will bring in an additional $1.7 billion tax base to Mesquite. With the new development, changes will be made to area streets, including Lawson Road and Lucas Road. Construction of the homes begins in 2023.
