Mayor Bruce Archer: “On April 19 the City Council authorized the hiring of an additional 5 sworn officers to the Mesquite Police Department. This will increase the quantity of patrol officers out on the streets of our community. Following a review of the City’s budget and financial condition, we determined that these police officers could be added at this time. It will accelerate the recruitment, hiring and training processes. With this action, the City Council embarks towards a goal to add 40 more police officers by 2026 or (40 IN 5)! Mesquite is growing at a rapid pace and this goal will ensure that our Police Department has the patrol officers to increase visibility in the community and the criminal investigators to respond to crimes as they occur. This goal will also coincide with our goals to hire more firefighters as we prepare for a new fire station in South Mesquite due to thousands of new homes that will be under construction in the coming months and years. Safety of our residents is the highest priority of the City Council. I am proud of the work of our police officers, 911 dispatchers and firefighters who all continue to help us become the Safest City in America.”
