Mesquite, TX – April 16, 2021 – The Mesquite Police Department is proud to take part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s, National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. On Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mesquite residents can bring any unwanted prescription drugs they wish to discard to the lobby of the Mesquite Police Department, 777 N. Galloway Avenue, so the prescription drugs can be destroyed in a safe and secure manner.
The prescription medications can be in both solid and liquid form. Please do not bring any used or unused needles or syringes for disposal.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health Issue. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that most abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often taken from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose related deaths.
