Mesquite, TX – April 6, 2021 – The City of Mesquite is producing video updates hosted by members of the City Council in the districts they represent. Each video will focus on various issues and topics in their district as well as news items that affect the entire city. The most recent district video is hosted by B.W. Smith, District 5. In the video, Councilmember Smith shares updates on the COVID-19 pandemic, the new City Noise Ordinance and his upcoming district meeting.
Councilmember Smith highlights some of the key changes to the City’s COVID-19 mask mandate. All City employees are required to wear face coverings, while residents are still encouraged to wear face coverings at City facilities but they are not mandatory. A new noise ordinance was passed in March to help police address some of the most common noise complaints in Mesquite, like loud music, parties, barking dogs, event centers and vehicles.
Councilmember Smith, District 5 will have a district meeting on Saturday, April 10. The meetings provide residents an opportunity to express their concerns to their councilmembers and discuss topics with their neighbors. The in-person meetings were discontinued in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. The meeting is at 10 a.m. at Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Drive.
