Mesquite, TX - March 31, 2021 – Today, Mesquite Police Department Interim Police Chief David Faaborg announced the promotion of Lieutenant Brandon Borden to the rank of Captain and Sergeant James Stanley to the rank of Lieutenant. Captain Borden will oversee the Technical Services Bureau and Lieutenant Stanley will serve as Watch Commander.

Faaborg said, “These two officers have shown incredible growth as leaders within the department and first responders to the community we serve. I am excited to have them take the next step in helping our department in its efforts to reduce crime in Mesquite.”
Captain Borden has been with the department since 1995 and has served in various roles including Patrol Officer, Juvenile Gang Investigator, Watch Commander and Major Crimes Lieutenant. He also served on the department’s Tactical Team from 1996 - 2011 in a variety of capacities, including Explosive Entry Operator and Team Leader. The retired United States Marine Corps Sergeant graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
Lieutenant Stanley joined the department in 2007 and has served as a Patrol Officer, a Jail Sergeant, in the Criminal Investigation Bureau and on the Special Response Team. He was raised in Mesquite, attended Poteet High School, and was selected to complete high school at the Texas Academy of Leadership at Lamar University. He graduated from the North Central Texas Council of Governments Basic Course in Applied Police Science, earning Class Valedictorian, and has also completed the School of Police Supervision at The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration.
