Mesquite, TX – March 31, 2021 – On March 30, Mayor Bruce Archer celebrated Theatre in Our Schools Month. He presented a proclamation declaring March, Theatre in Our School Month in Mesquite and urged Mesquite citizens to support school theatre education programs.

WHEREAS, theatre education enriches the lives of countless students in our schools and allows them to discover their myriad skills and abilities in leadership, communication and collaboration, and unlocks the unlimited potential of the student; and
WHEREAS, theatre is a critical component of the learning process and develops students’ creativity, self-discipline, problem solving and critical thinking abilities; and
WHEREAS, research indicates that students with more theatre education have higher academic achievement across the curriculum and the importance of theatre education is recognized as being necessary for the full development of all students; and
WHEREAS, Theatre in Our Schools Month is a special opportunity for the Mesquite community to engage in the ongoing process of theatre education and bring a heightened awareness of the importance of the arts in education.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bruce Archer, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim the month of March 2021, as:
Theatre in Our Schools Month
in the City of Mesquite and urge Mesquite citizens to take an interest in and give full support to the unique contributions that quality school theatre education programs provide for students.
