Mesquite, TX - March 30, 2021 – David Gill has been named the new Assistant Police Chief for the City of Mesquite. Gill has served more than 27 years in the Mesquite Police Department managing various operations and overseeing an array of programs. He has earned 32 department awards, including three Life Saving Awards.
Assistant Police Chief Gill served as a patrol officer from 1994 - 2003, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2003, to Lieutenant in 2008 and to Captain in 2015. During the past 27 years, he has commanded the Operations Bureau and Criminal Investigations Bureau, helped develop a program to assist officers with peer support in dealing with their involvement in critical incidents and created a career development program for patrol officers as well as other assignments. Gill said, “I look forward to this opportunity to support Interim Police Chief Faaborg as our department maintains its efforts to reduce crime in our community and to serve our evolving leadership team as we work together to make Mesquite safer.”

Assistant Police Chief Gill earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Midwestern State University and his leadership training includes graduation from both the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police as well as the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College.
