Mesquite, TX – March 9, 2021 – On March 8, Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer presented a special proclamation to Dr. Vishnu Maya Upadhyay in honor of her contributions to the Mesquite community, for forming the USA – Nepal Community Outreach Network and in honor of International Women’s Day.

WHEREAS, women play a vital role in worldwide social, economic, cultural and political development; and
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day is recognized globally and has been observed since 1911. It serves as a reminder of the important progress women have made towards equality in areas such as academia and athletics as well as government and politics; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vishnu Maya Upadhyay has given to the Mesquite community in many ways and is a founding member of the USA-Nepal Community Outreach Network (UNCON); and
WHEREAS, UNCON’s mission is to work with communities to help alleviate hunger and poverty and to provide support for healthcare activities to the underprivileged people in Nepal and other parts of the world; and
WHEREAS, UNCON works to provide short-term help for various disaster victims, support education, health, child abuse and women’s empowerment and provide support in other areas that are approved by the UNCON Board; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Maya discovered an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those around her and dedicates her time and resources in our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bruce Archer, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 8, 2021, as:
USA-Nepal Community Outreach Network Day
in the City of Mesquite and urge Mesquite citizens to continue to work toward equality for all people and to engage in UNCON’s projects which benefit our community.
