Mesquite, TX – February 18, 2021 – Councilmember Sherry Wisdom, District 1, has been awarded the 2020 Distinguished Alumni & Pillar of the Community Award from the Dallas College Foundation. Councilmember Wisdom was just one of five honorees selected for the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2020. The award recognizes a Dallas College alumnus or alumna, who, through their service and achievements, personifies Dallas College's tradition of excellence.
Councilmember Wisdom received her Associate of Arts Degree from Eastfield College. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University and a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M – Commerce, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Councilmember Wisdom currently is a special education teacher for grades Kindergarten through 5th. She was elected as councilmember, District 1 in November of 2019.
Every year, one honoree is chosen from each Dallas College Campus. She was nominated for the award by a community member. Nominations are reviewed and scored by the Alumni Steering Committee; the highest score is then selected as the honoree.
Nominees must have a high level of accomplishment and recognition in his/her career and life experience, have demonstrated commitment and service to his/her community and they must embody the values of Dallas College, including accountability, cooperation, creativity, diversity, fairness, honesty, integrity, meaningful communications, mutual trust and responsible risk.
