Mesquite, TX – February 1, 2021 – The City of Mesquite’s Equipment Services Division of the Public Works Department was recognized as a 2020 Silver Fleet Award Winner for the second year in a row. The annual honor, awarded by the North Texas Council of Government’s Clean City Commission, recognizes fleets for their commitment to a cleaner environment through their efforts to reduce emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of their fleets. Mesquite is one of only six cities in North Texas to receive the Silver Fleet Award.
The Director of Public Works, Curt Cassidy said, “The Public Works Department is excited to receive this award and to help create a cleaner environment for the citizens of Mesquite.”
Cassidy added the department is constantly evaluating their sustainability initiative. The City of Mesquite was recognized for their emphasis on idle reduction and for the City’s diverse alternative fuel vehicle inventory. The City has 989 vehicles in its fleet.
Twenty- two fleets throughout the DFW area were recognized for their work by the DFW Clean Cities Fleet Recognition (DFWCC). Eight received Gold Awards and eight received Bronze Awards.
The DFWCC is a program created by the U.S. Department of Energy that seeks to advance energy security, protect environmental and public health, and stimulate economic development by promoting practices and decisions to reduce petroleum consumption and improve air quality.
