Mesquite, TX – January 27, 2021 – The City of Mesquite refurbished the picnic shelter at Westover Greenbelt Park at no cost to Mesquite taxpayers. The City of Mesquite’s Parks and Recreation Department was able to use funds from the City’s 4B Budget, which is funded from sales tax, not property tax.
The picnic shelter at Westover Greenbelt Park is in District 3 at the intersection of North Parkway and Sybil Drive. The cost of the project was $17,000 to refurbish the existing roof of the shelter by using the steel structure already in place and putting a new roof on top. City staff also pressure washed the shelter, made some minor repairs and put a fresh stain on the shelter. The efforts of staff saved the City more than $80,000.
The picnic shelter seats 64, features a large grill and is adjacent to nearly two miles of walking and biking on the Westover-Greenbelt trail.
