Mesquite, TX – January 22, 2021 – According to a new nationwide study by SmartAsset, Mesquite has ranked fourth in cities where people younger than the age of 35 are most likely to own their own home.
City of Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer said, “This is a great affirmation the Mesquite community is becoming more and more appealing to a younger demographic. As Mesquite continues to grow and diversify, these young families and professionals will play a vital role in the future of our community.”
The study found that young homeownership has decreased overall since 2009 and that under-35 homeownership lags compared to that of older generations, particularly in large cities. Mesquite is one of the contradictions since the homeownership rate among Mesquite residents younger than 35 was 45.46% in 2019 compared to 35.47% in 2009, meaning the increase over 10 years was 9.99 percentage points.
To find the cities where more under-35 residents are buying homes, SmartAsset compared the homeownership rate for this demographic in 2009 with the homeownership rate in 2019 for 200 of the largest U.S. cities.
