Mesquite, TX – November 20, 2020 – With the holiday shopping season approaching, the City of Mesquite has launched its #ShopMesquite campaign to ask its residents to shop and dine in the community to help support the local economy and businesses. The efforts include www.ShopMesquiteTX.com which is a new electronic rolodex of businesses located in Mesquite with featured stories, videos and more on places to shop, eat and experience in Mesquite. The holiday shopping season kickoffs Nov. 28 with Small Business Saturday in Downtown Mesquite.
Mayor Bruce Archer said, “The more our residents shop in Mesquite, the more their money goes to work in Mesquite. Our sales tax revenue makes up about 25% of our general fund budget. That fund helps pay for police, fire, 911 dispatch, parks, recreation, animal control, street repair, libraries and so many more quality of life services. And equally important, shopping and dining in Mesquite helps so many of our small business owners who have been impacted by the pandemic.”
On Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., #ShopMesquite comes to Downtown Mesquite as 11 Downtown Mesquite businesses will be participating in the national Small Business Saturday program. This year, Downtown Mesquite produced a series of videos with student video classes from Mesquite ISD to promote the local businesses and the program. More details can be found at www.DowntownMesquiteTX.com on this program and other holiday events.
In addition to the new website and Small Business Saturday, the City has “Shop Mesquite – Support our Local Businesses” signs in street medians throughout the community, special messages on the Town East Mall outdoor marquee, tourism promotions directed towards day travelers and promotional outreach to citizens, all planned for the holiday season of shopping.
Archer also wanted to remind Mesquite residents to be smart and safe as they venture out to stores, restaurants and destinations in Mesquite. He said, “Let’s all help stop the spread of the virus. Wear face coverings, use social distancing and follow public health guidelines. We can all shop safe, eat safe and enjoy a healthy holiday season all while supporting our local businesses in Mesquite.”
