Mesquite, TX – November 11, 2020 – In recognition of Veterans Day, the City of Mesquite has extended the deadline to Dec. 18 for the public to purchase a personalized brick to be installed at the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial located at 425 S. Galloway Avenue. The cost of each 4” x 8” brick is $50 and includes three lines for a personalized inscription. The public can visit www.MesquiteVeteransMemorial.org to get details and to order a brick.
Elizabeth Harrell, Director of Parks and Recreation, said, “The community’s response to the new memorial has been tremendous. Our recent dedication of the memorial and the news of it being open to the public has created a new demand for brick orders. We are responding by providing additional time for the community to be a part of this historical project.” Harrell shared that more than 1,000 bricks have already been sold. The City released a video of the dedication ceremonies.
Each brick will be installed along the Walk of Honor entryway that welcomes visitors to a plaza area of the memorial. All bricks are expected to be in place by the end of February 2021.
The memorial is located near City Lake Park. It features two 14-foot wide walls with six medallions of veterans groups on the front side and six history panels of modern-era wars facing the lake. A center column, highlighted with a bronze seal of the United States of America, lists the names of all military veterans from the Mesquite community who lost their lives while in service. The plaza area is further enhanced with a granite star and four benches named Service, Sacrifice, Honor and Freedom. A bronze American Bald Eagle, with a 5-foot wing span, rests atop the memorial.
