Mesquite, TX – November 5, 2020 – The City of Mesquite is producing video updates hosted by members of the City Council in the districts they represent. Each video will focus on various issues and topics in their district as well as news items that affect the entire city. The most recent district video is hosted by B.W. Smith, District 5. In the video, Councilmember Smith shares updates on the City’s budget, economic development and a public works project in his district.
Councilmember Smith highlights some of the key changes to the recently approved FY 2020- 2021 Budget. The City Council lowered the property tax rate for the first time in 25 years, they added four additional police officer to the Mesquite Police Department, plus they set aside money for every public safety personnel to receive mental health training. A few more key highlights from the budget was an expanded animal shelter and two more animal control officers.
