Mesquite, TX – Aug. 18, 2020 – The City of Mesquite is celebrating local women leaders in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. This month, Mayor Archer will highlight past Mesquite leaders like former mayors Brunhilde Nystrom and Cathye Ray, women from Mesquite history like Opal Lawrence and Florence Black and feature female leaders working in the City of Mesquite.
For many years, women like Susan B. Anthony and so many others worked to bring about reform to see that women would be provided the same equality as men, especially when it came to the right to vote. On Aug. 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified giving women the right to vote.
