Mesquite, TX – July 23, 2020 – The Mesquite Police Department recently received a thank you letter from a Mesquite citizen who was stranded on IH 20 for nearly two hours. The citizen ran out of gas and was waiting for roadside assistance when Police Officer Marcus Rodriguez stopped to provide help.
Officer Rodriguez realized that roadside assistance probably wasn’t going to arrive anytime soon, so he arranged for one of the department’s Public Safety Professionals (PSP) to arrive and help provide additional service. Within five minutes of Officer Rodriquez’s call, PSP Nehemias Iglesias had arrived with some gas and the citizen was able to drive to the nearest gas station to fuel up his vehicle.
Officer Rodriguez has been with the department six years and is currently assigned to the department’s Traffic Unit. PSP Nehemias Iglesias has been with the department for two years.
Currently, the department has eight PSPs, six of which are assigned to assist patrol officers and calls for services on the streets. These PSPs play a vital role in allowing officers to remain focused on street patrols. From crime fighting to customer service, sworn police officers and PSPs are working together to keep the community safe.
The Mesquite Police Department is dedicated and determined to making an impact on our community in demonstrating that they C.A.R.E. with every citizen, every day. They place our CITIZENS first, with a professional ATTITUDE, with RESPECT to understand their needs and with a consistent effort to deliver service in a manner which embodies the principle ETHICS of the City of Mesquite.
