Mesquite, TX – December 20, 2019 – The Mesquite Elks Lodge 2404 is helping families in need this holiday season. On Dec. 17, 18 and 19 the group handed out more than 100 boxes of food items and Christmas presents to the families.
Elks member and Christmas Coordinator, Mike Jacobson, said, “This event is the reason I joined the Mesquite Elks Lodge. I’ve been in charge for 15 years now and I’ve been here so long even my grandkids love to come and help.”
The Mesquite Elks Lodge 2404, Lady’s Auxiliary of the Elks and community volunteers have been holding this special holiday party for families from Mesquite Social Services since 1988. This year, they treated dozens of families to a warm, homemade meal. Kids were able to meet Santa and have their picture taken with him, and they also got to choose a Christmas present from a room of donated toys.
District 2 Councilman Kenny Green attended the event that took place in his district, and said, “It’s such a great event. I watched as the children’s faces lit up when Santa entered the room and their eyes got big as they took turns picking out their own gifts.”
The Mesquite Elks Lodge also packed 110 boxes of food, including a ham or turkey, milk, bread and other food items for families to take home to prepare a holiday meal.
The Mesquite Elks Lodge will also donate toys to approximately 200 more children who are currently in foster care or homeless this holiday season.
