Mesquite, TX - Dec. 20, 2019 - In an effort to share more about Mesquite Police Department (MPD) operations with our residents and businesses, the following is an example of how the department utilizes call data and focused teams of police officers to address crimes in Mesquite.
During November, MPD Crime Analysts observed a high volume of calls and crime reports in two areas of town, La Prada Drive and Gus Thomasson Road as well as Tripp Road and Franklin Drive. The Analysts worked with Patrol Officers to identify times of day and patrol tactics to place officers in areas where crimes might be committed. Provided with as much information as possible, officers working the “Deployment Unit” were assigned to these areas the last week of November. In a matter of just a few days, the unit initiated 38 traffic stops, issued 31 citations, recovered 4 stolen vehicles and made 9 arrests.
The Deployment Unit has become a vital tool in MPD’s efforts to combat crime in our community. The success of the unit depends on calls and reports to MPD. Citizens must report all crimes, no matter how small and call in any suspicious or unusual behavior. It might be the information the public provides that leads to a successful deployment.
