Mesquite, TX – Aug. 27, 2019 – On Aug. 4, Jack was picked up us an injured stray by Mesquite Animal Services (MAS). He had a minor skull fracture that healed quickly with treatment from the City’s veterinary partner and was them made available for adoption when no one contacted MAS to claim him.
This past weekend, MAS received an email from a couple who thought Jack could be their dog. On the day their dog went missing, the newly wedded couple were moving to Shreveport, Louisiana. All their belongings were packed and they were ready to begin their move, but they couldn’t find their dog anywhere. Short on time, they made the tearful decision to leave Jack behind. However, they kept searching local lost and found pages and shelter websites hoping Jack might be found. Thomas and his bride, Jack’s mom and dad, couldn’t believe it when they saw Jack’s picture on MAS’s webpage.
Thomas made the trip back from Louisiana to Mesquite on Aug. 26 to confirm whether the dog was actually Jack. It was, indeed, a very happy family reunion and Jack returned home with Thomas – this time with a microchip so he can be contacted immediately Jack ever goes missing again. Thomas told City staff how he had just been married, his wife finally found a job in Shreveport after searching for several months and then they found their missing “child.” He said he feels like the luckiest man in the world right now. We think Jack feels the same way.
