Mesquite, TX – June 18, 2019 - Downtown Mesquite property and business owners now have the opportunity to improve the outward appearance of their buildings with assistance from the Downtown Façade Improvement Program approved by the Mesquite City Council on May 20. The program is a continuation of the Council’s focus on downtown revitalization as part of their Vibrant Economy strategic goal.
“This façade grant program will have a major impact on the look and economic vitality of our downtown neighborhood,” said Mesquite Downtown Development Advisory Board Chairman Brad Brandt. “The Main Street Program approach to downtown revitalization is incremental, so improving properties building by building is within that philosophy and will provide lasting, sustainable improvements.”
The grant will be for a 50% reimbursement of the cost of a façade rehabilitation up to $20,000. The grant program is funded by the Towne Centre Tax Increment Reinvestment District Number Two, with the total amount of grants not to exceed $80,000 each fiscal year.
The grant program can also be coupled with free design services from historic preservation architects. These services are made available to downtown business and property owners as part of the Texas Main Street Program.
Applications, further grant criteria, and a map of the program area are available at www.cityofmesquite.com/Downtown.
