Mesquite, Texas – May 29, 2019 – This year the City will close its Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) following the successful rehabilitation of 22 Mesquite homes. Funded by a $2 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the NSP allowed City of Mesquite to purchase and rehab 22 vacant or foreclosed single-family homes within target neighborhoods. View the NSP Target Area map.
The City sells these homes at or below the cost needed to purchase and rehab each home. Many of the homes include new Energy Star appliances, new carpeting and ceramic tiling. The City sold its latest rehabilitated home early this month. Watch a video story on the home rehab.
The final two properties in the program are total demolitions with home reconstructions scheduled to begin summer 2019. After selling the final two homes, the City will move its remaining NSP funds to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The CDBG program, also funded by HUD, supports home improvement efforts for low- and moderate-income residents.
