Two City of Mesquite Councilmembers received honors at the Texas Municipal League Midyear Conference this week in Austin.
Councilmember Brandon Murden, who represents District 6, was awarded the 2024 Texas Municipal League Institute (TMLI) Certified Municipal Official designation.
Murden joins former Mesquite Mayor John Monaco as the only two elected officials in the City’s history to receive this honor.
The Certified Municipal Officer designation recognizes individuals who complete 72 or more continuing education units a calendar year and is the top award in the TMLI program. Only 30 elected city officials received the 2024 honor.
Councilmember Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross, who represents District 3, was awarded the 2024 TMLI Certificate of Recognition. This honor recognizes elected officials who complete 42 or more continuing education units in one calendar year.
The Texas Municipal League, an Austin-based nonprofit, provides legal guidance, legislative advocacy, publications, training, and networking opportunities for officials from more than 1,174 cities in Texas.
