Downtown Mesquite’s MVP Nutrition and Energy was named the Texas Downtown Business of the Year during the Texas Downtown President’s Awards gala held Tuesday in Abilene.
MVP won the award in the 50,000 and more population category. The honor recognizes an exceptional downtown business that positively promotes the downtown or commercial district as a destination for locals and tourists alike, and actively participates in the revitalization efforts and supports downtown promotional events.
Four Mesquite nominees reached Top Three Finalist status this year:
- MVP Nutrition and Energy, Downtown Business of the Year
- Solar Rodeo, Best Traditional Promotion
- Mesquite Arts Center, Best Public Partner
- Heritage Plaza, Best Renovation
More than 100 nominations are typically entered in the annual awards competition. Mesquite has won eight statewide awards in the five years of the Downtown Development division of the City of Mesquite’s Economic Development Department. The awards have included Best Economic Game Changer for Front Street Station, Best Digital Promotion for a business video series in conjunction with MISD and the Resiliency award for the development of both Heritage Plaza and Alejandro’s @ Front Street Station, among others.
Winners of the 2024 President’s Awards Program were announced in Abilene in conjunction with the Texas Downtown Annual Conference. For more than 35 years, the awards program, sponsored by Texas Downtown has recognized outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas downtowns.
Texas Downtown was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The mission of the organization is to provide members with resources, advocacy, education, and connections. Texas Downtown represents cities of all sizes, economic development organizations, nonprofits including chambers of commerce and merchant groups, and small business owners.
