During March, the City of Mesquite is celebrating Women’s History Month. Tributes to notable women in Mesquite, including recognitions of former and current City leaders, will be featured throughout the month on the City’s social media accounts.

On March 11, the North Branch of the Mesquite Library will host its monthly Crafty Chapters Book Club and will discuss favorite books or series written by women authors. Attendees also will share recommendations of new books to read. The gathering will be at 2 p.m. at North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive. Call 972-681-0465 for information.

Women’s history is always prominent at the Opal Lawrence Historical Park and Florence Ranch Homestead. The history of both sites, operated by Historic Mesquite, Inc., features women who made tremendous contributions to the Mesquite community. Visiting is a chance to learn about their daily lives and contributions, and women like them. Opal Lawrence Historical Park is located 711 E. All month long, the Mesquite Arts Center will include Women’s History Month-focused projects in its free Tote-and-Go kits for kids, featuring female artists including Suzanne Valadon, Helen Frankenthaler, Camille Billops, Anni Albers and Jan Weston. There is a limited supply of Tote-and-Go kits, so please register in advance by visiting www.mesquiteartscenter.org.

Other Women’s History Month recognitions include Downtown Mesquite highlighting women-owned businesses in Mesquite on its social media channels during March, and the Mesquite Library will feature special Women’s History Month displays.
