Mesquite, TX – May 14, 2021 – On May 14, Mayor Bruce Archer proclaimed May 9 – 15 National Hospital Week in the City of Mesquite. At a presentation at Dallas Regional Medical Center, Mayor Archer encouraged citizens to express their appreciation for the people, facilities and technologies that make health care possible in Mesquite.

WHEREAS, National Hospital Week is May 9-15, 2021, and this year’s official theme is “Inspiring Hope through Healing;” and

WHEREAS, National Hospital Day was first observed on May 12, 1921, to boost citizens’ confidence in hospitals following the 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic. In 1953, National Hospital Day expanded to National Hospital Week allowing hospitals additional time to educate the public about medical care; and

WHEREAS, National Hospital Week is an opportunity to highlight hospitals, health systems and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting the needs of their community members, especially during this pandemic; and

WHEREAS, those who serve in hospitals have a major responsibility to the welfare of our community. The hard-working people who operate and provide care at our hospitals deserve universal regard and appreciation for keeping our community healthy; and

WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic showed the tireless dedication and selflessness of hospital staff, and truly earned them the title of “essential workers”; and

WHEREAS, Dallas Regional Medical Center is an invaluable asset to the City of Mesquite and its citizens and plays an integral role in serving our community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bruce Archer, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim the week of May 9-15, 2021, as:

National Hospital Week

in the City of Mesquite and encourage each citizen to express their appreciation for the people, facilities and technologies that make trustworthy, reliable health care possible in our community.
