Mesquite, TX – September 14, 2020 – On Sept. 14, Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer presented a special proclamation to the Daughters of the American Revolution in honor of Constitution Week from Sept. 17-23.

Here is the proclamation that was presented:

WHEREAS, September 17, 2020, marks the 233rd anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and

WHEREAS, in 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower; and

WHEREAS, the goals of the Constitution Week celebration are to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution, inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life, and encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bruce Archer, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17-23, 2020, as:

Constitution Week

in the City of Mesquite and encourage citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Constitutions’ Framers had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.
