About the Project

In partnership with Dallas County, the La Prada Drive Reconstruction project will modernize approximately 1.63 miles of roadway from Motley Drive to Pinehurst Lane. Improvements will replace aging pavement and underground utilities while enhancing safety, drainage, and neighborhood character along this major corridor.

Work includes new paving, storm-drain facilities, water and sanitary-sewer line replacements, updated traffic signals, new sidewalks, driveways, and a shared-use trail. Decorative stamped-concrete features and landscaping will create a more attractive and pedestrian-friendly streetscape.

Between Motley Drive and Barnes Bridge Road, the existing four-lane roadway will be reconfigured to two lanes with a continuous center turn lane and on-street parking. This design calms traffic and provides space for wider sidewalks and trees, promoting a safer and more enjoyable experience for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

During construction, temporary lane closures and detours will occur in phases to maintain local access. The City will provide regular updates through message boards, construction notices, and the project webpage. When complete, La Prada Drive will feature upgraded pavement, modern utilities, and a resilient, accessible corridor that benefits residents and visitors alike.

Road Closure

March 19, 2026

Progress Update

Beginning March 2026, eastbound lanes on La Prada Drive between North Galloway Avenue and Pinehurst Lane will be closed to allow for underground utility construction, including water line installation. This phase is anticipated to continue through the end of July 2026, with traffic shifted to a temporary two-way configuration on the westbound lanes while maintaining neighborhood access via North Galloway Avenue.

Construction Phasing

How work will move through the neighborhood.

Utility work will start near Pinehurst Lane and progress southwest toward Motley. As utilities move through each phase, the contractor will return and pave completed sections instead of waiting until all utility work reaches Motley.

  • Utilities begin at Pinehurst Lane and advance southwest.
  • Paving follows behind utilities in completed areas.
  • This means paving will likely start back near Pinehurst Lane while utilities continue further into the neighborhood.
