The City Council held a Special Work Session on August 27 to discuss the process and criteria for transitioning the system of electing the City’s six Councilmembers to a single-member-district system. Happy Labor Day

City offices and STAR Transit closed on Labor Day


City of Mesquite offices and facilities will be closed Monday, September 3, in observance of Labor Day. No trash or recycling will be collected September 3; collection will occur on residents’ next scheduled collection day. For a complete list of closures and service impacts, visit cityofmesquite.com/Holidays.
 
STAR Transit buses will not be in service on September 3. The administrative building and customer service center also will be closed. Regular office hours and bus service will resume on September 4. View bus routes and additional information at startransit.org.


Mesquite City Council

City Council to meet on Tuesday, September 4


Due to the Labor Day holiday, City Council will meet on Tuesday, September 4. The Pre-Meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber, and the Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Meeting agendas are available online at cityofmesquite.com/CouncilAgenda. Elaina Kay to perform at Sounds in the Square concert

Sounds in the Square concert series begins September 8 in Downtown Mesquite


Enjoy an evening of live music with country and pop singer Elaina Kay, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 8. Food will be available for purchase at Chef Billy's Culinary Creations food truck. 9/11 Ceremony at Freedom Park


The public is invited to attend Mesquite’s annual 9/11 Ceremony at Freedom Park, 1527 N. Galloway Ave., 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11. Patriots Day Lunch will honor first responders and military veterans on September 11


Dallas County Justice of the Peace Judge Bill Metzger will host his fourth annual “9/11 Patriots Day Thank You to the First Responders & Veterans" Lunch Tuesday, September 11. All first responders and military veterans are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch at the Dallas County Government Building, 823 N. Fall Trash Bash is September 15

Fall Trash Bash scheduled for September 15


Gather your friends and family to participate in the semi-annual Trash Bash, hosted by Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB). The communitywide cleanup event will take place from 9 a.m. - noon, Saturday, September 15, at City Lake Park, 200 Parkview St. Choose your cleanup location or allow KMB to assign you an area in the city that could use some extra help. 2018 Taste & Trade

Attend the annual Taste & Trade on September 25


The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce will host its 23rd Annual Taste & Trade from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, at the Exhibit Hall at Rodeo Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Explore a variety of exhibits from local businesses during this State Fair-themed event.
