Special City Council Work Session on August 27


The agenda includes discussion on the process and criteria for transitioning the system for electing the City’s six Councilmembers to a single member district system and conduct a plan drawing session to develop illustrative districting plan(s). The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on August 27, in City Hall Training Rooms A & B, 757 N. Galloway Ave.


9/11 ceremony at Freedom Park

Mesquite to host 9/11 Ceremony at Freedom Park


The public is invited to attend the annual 9/11 Ceremony at Freedom Park, 1527 N. Galloway Ave., at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11. Clear the Shelters adoption

Clear the Shelters event places 89 animals in new homes


Mesquite Animal Services (MAS) placed 89 animals in new homes during the Clear the Shelters adoption event on August 18. Adoption fees were waived for the day as part of a nationwide effort to increase adoptions. As a result, 100 percent of the shelter's cat population was adopted as well as 46 dogs. Visit cityofmesquite.com/AnimalServices to view animals currently at the shelter.

City employees honored as Real. Texas. Service. Champions


Mesquite honored four City employees with Real. Texas. Service. Champion awards during the City Council meeting on August 20. The following employees were recognized: Database Applications Analyst Truman Richardson, Public Works Dispatcher Albert Juarez, Recreation Supervisor Heidi Lyon and Assistant Manager of Streets Tony Douglas. Labor Day

City offices closed on Labor Day 


City of Mesquite offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, September 3, in observance of Labor Day. No trash or recycling will be collected September 3; collection will occur on the residents’ next scheduled collection day. 2018 Taste & Trade

23rd Annual Taste & Trade is September 25


The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce will host its 23rd Annual Taste & Trade from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, at the Exhibit Hall at Rodeo Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Explore a variety of exhibits from local businesses during this State Fair-themed event.
