City Council to meet August 6


On Monday, August 6, the Mesquite City Council Pre-Meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. The Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. The meeting agenda is available online at cityofmesquite.com/CouncilAgenda. Meetings are broadcast live at cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings and via Facebook Live. Mesquite Community Theatre will present the musical comedy Curtains from August 3 - 19 at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The 1950s “whodunit” parody tells the story of detective Frank Cioffi, who investigates a series of murders that take place behind the scenes of a fictional musical. Mesquite Public Health Clinic offers special hours for back-to-school vaccinations


The Mesquite Public Health Clinic, 1616 N. Galloway Ave., will offer $14 child vaccinations during special back-to-school hours. From August 13 - 24, the clinic will be open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Vaccinations are payable by cash, check, debit card or credit card. Clients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and guardians must provide complete vaccination records. CHIP is not accepted. This week, firefighters from all seven Mesquite fire stations donated and delivered a large supply of peanut butter and jelly in support of the City of Mesquite’s Spread the Love campaign. The campaign encourages donations of peanut butter and jelly to help feed children during the summer who typically rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year. The campaign supports the two food pantries in Mesquite: Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services. Visit cityofmesquite.com/SpreadTheLove for more information.


Doggie Splash Day is Aug. 11

Doggie Splash Day to be held on August 11


Mesquite Parks & Recreation invites dogs and their owners to the annual Doggie Splash Day from 9 a.m. - noon on Saturday, August 11, at Vanston Pool, 2913 Oates Drive. Admission includes access to the wading pool, lap pool and one-meter diving board. Pets and owners can compete in several contests including a pet swimsuit contest, diving contest and a pet and owner look-alike contest. Admission is $5 for one owner and one pet, $2 for each additional pet, and $1 for spectators. Proof of current dog vaccinations is required. Fire Captain Bradley Burney commemorated with sign on Honorary Drive


Mesquite will honor the life and service of Fire Captain Bradley Burney with a personalized street sign on Honorary Drive throughout August. Captain Burney served the Mesquite Fire Department for 25 years and passed away in June. Following the sign placement on July 31, the Mesquite Fire Department presented Burney’s wife, Joanna, with a shadow box created for Captain Burney along with a smaller, personal version of his street sign on Honorary Drive.


MISD Back to School Fairs

Back-to-School Fairs to be held on August 11


Mesquite ISD’s annual Back-to-School Fairs will be held from 8 a.m. - noon on Saturday, August 11, at three locations: West Mesquite High School, 2500 Memorial Blvd.; Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive; and Sharing Life Community Outreach, 3544 E. Emporium Circle. This free community event connects students and families with back-to-school resources such as backpacks, immunizations, physicals, haircuts and more.
