The 2017 Spread the Love peanut butter and jelly food drive is underway and off to a great start! El Rio Grande Latin Market and Mesquite AMBUCS both recently donated $1,000 each to the annual food drive, which benefits the food pantries of Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services.
In addition, Dallas Mavericks guard Wesley Matthews made a special appearance at Florence Elementary School on March 9 to present the City with enough peanut butter and jelly to make 20,000 sandwiches courtesy of Albertsons/Tom Thumb Companies. Watch a highlight video of the food drive rally.
Donations to the Spread the Love campaign will be accepted throughout the spring and summer months of 2017 to help feed children during the summer who typically rely on free or reduced lunches provided by their schools. Peanut butter and jelly are both in high demand during the summer months. Donations can be made at several city facilities plus special events.
