Mesquite Police Chief David Gill takes Oath of Office


At the Oct. 18 City Council Meeting Police Chief David Gill was administered the Oath of Office by City Secretary Sonja Land. A 27-year veteran of the Mesquite Police Department, Chief Gill has served in all areas of the department both as a supervisor and as an officer. He has earned 34 department honors including three Life Saving Awards and two Certificates of Merit. Learn more.

Mesquite approves new $60 million industrial campus called Mesquite 635


On Oct. 18, the Mesquite City Council passed a resolution to approve terms and conditions with CH Realty IX-CE I Mesquite 635, an entity of Creation Equity in partnership with a real estate fund advised by Crow Holdings Capital for the construction and development of Mesquite 635, a Class A Industrial Business Park on 38 acres at the Southeast corner of US Highway 80 and IH-635. Huffines Communities breaks ground on Solterra


A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Oct. 20 for the newest Huffines Signature Community™, Solterra, in Mesquite. Developer Huffines Communities commemorated the project milestone with Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer, members of the Mesquite City Council and many others from the real estate and builder community, celebrating the largest development in the city’s history, with 3,900 new homes and 300 townhomes on 1,530 acres upon project completion. Solterra is expected to have a tax value of more than $1.6 billion with the first phase of development delivering 787 lots in the fourth quarter of 2022. Learn more.

JCPenny Beauty opens in Mesquite at Town East Mall


JCPenny Beauty, a new, inclusive in-store and online experience that reflects customers’ beauty wants and needs, no matter their age, gender, race, skin tone, hair type, beauty regime, or budget, opened in Mesquite this week at Town East Mall. Early voting until Oct. 29


Registered Mesquite voters will have the opportunity to vote in the City’s General Election to elect the positions of Mayor and Councilmembers representing Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Only district residents will be permitted to vote for the candidates seeking to represent that district. The Mayor will be elected by all voters, because the office represents the entire City. Mesquite voters will also vote on Proposition A, which is for more public safety, more street repair and more cybersecurity. Early Voting goes until Oct. 29. Election Day is Nov. 2. City holds Tax Election Public Meeting on Oct. 26


The City will hold the last public meeting about the upcoming tax election on Nov. 2. The next public meeting on the tax election will be on Oct. 26 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue at 7 p.m. Proposition A is on the ballot for more public safety, more street repair and more cybersecurity. The Mesquite City Council unanimously approved the fiscal year 2021 – 2022 budget which keeps the City property tax rate the same as last year. State law requires that Mesquite voters approve this year’s tax rate which exceeds the 3.5% voter-approval tax rate. Learn more.

Meter conversion project starts


The City of Mesquite has started a meter conversion project for all its residential and commercial water utility customers. The company Ameresco and their subcontractor Pedal Valve (PVI) were chosen to replace outdated manual meters with upgraded meters as part of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project which will upgrade and modernize the City’s water billing infrastructure. With this AMI water meter project, customers will have access to more frequent detailed information about water consumption, enabling them to have better control over their water usage and monthly bills. New solid waste ordinance


As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items. The City of Mesquite held a Town Hall Tuesday meeting on Oct. 12 about the changes.
