Can't Keep Your Pet? Click Here First!

Mesquite Animal Services is OVER capacity with dogs. If you are considering surrendering your dog, please utilize the shelter as your last resort. Contact rescues, family and other rehoming options before contacting the shelter. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

If you are unable to keep your pet and are considering surrendering you pet to Mesquite Animal Services, please check these resources first. Mesquite Animal Services is an open-admission shelter which means we always have to have space available for stray animals. Owner surrenders are not guaranteed a hold time and, if surrendered when no space is available, they may be in danger of being humanely euthanized right away.

Owner surrenders are done by appointment only. To request a surrender appointment, please contact staff at Mesquite Animal Services for additional information and requirements.

In many cases, the staff at Mesquite Animal Services can help provide outside resources that will enable you to keep your pet or find an alternative to surrendering to the shelter.  We also encourage you to contact Dallas Pets Alive with the same information at PASS Form (jotform.com). They have many resources outside of Mesquite that MAS may not have.

If you want to be sure your pet goes to a home that you approve of, you can list your pet here: rehome.adoptapet.com/r/96160This site will enable potential adopters to complete an adoption application that you receive, review and approve. You will meet with potential adopters and the new adopter will take ownership of your pet only if you agree. The adoption fee is donated to Mesquite Animal Services. We suggest you do all meet and greets in a neutral location.

After you have exhausted all of your resources and you may have to find a new home for your pet through our animal shelter, email rescues@cityofmesquite.com with the following information (please copy selection below and include your response in your email.
