City Council makes appointments to new Mesquite Downtown Development Advisory Board


At the Jan. 7 Regular Meeting, the City Council appointed 12 members to the new Mesquite Downtown Development Advisory Board. The board will aid the City in planning events, promoting businesses and enhancing Downtown Mesquite. 


Update on street repairs to Town East Boulevard

Mesquite moves forward with street repairs to Town East Boulevard


Watch the Mesquite Minute video on the efforts to address current road conditions of Town East Boulevard from Skyline Drive to U.S. 80. Street Division crews are milling and patching the roadway in advance for the upcoming reconstruction of this roadway this spring. The repairs should be complete by the end of February.

Mesquite continues its efforts on New Year's Eve fireworks and gunfire


The City implemented its “Celebrate Safely” public education campaign and enforcement efforts on New Year’s Eve to address the illegal possession and use of fireworks and celebratory gunfire. Police and Fire Department deployment teams issued seven citations for possession or use of fireworks and made two arrests for the discharge of a firearm. They also confiscated 26 pounds of illegal fireworks.



Renovations are complete at Westlake Sports Center

Westlake Sports Center renovations are complete


The Westlake Sports Center reopened Jan. 7 after construction of a new pro shop and ADA-accessible pedestrian bridge from the parking lot. The Westlake Sports Center offers both tennis and archery programs for all ages, including an opportunity to take free lessons once a month. The community is invited to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Community Celebration on Jan. 19. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in Downtown Mesquite followed by a 2 p.m. community celebration at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Mesquite Arts Center hosts free Just for Kids program on Jan. 19


The Just for Kids program is a series of free interactive events that introduce children to the arts presented by the Mesquite Arts Council. This month’s event features Peeler & Rose, an interactive marionette variety show filled with novelty songs and trick puppetry. The event begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 19, at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. For details, call 972-216-8132.


City offers youth Day Camp on Jan. 21

City offers youth Play Day camp on Jan. 21


The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Play Day camp for children in grades K - 6th on Jan. 21, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dunford and Rutherford recreation centers. Participants must bring a water bottle and sack lunch. Cost is $16 per child. Advance registration is required. For details, call 972-216-6260.


Mesquite Polar Plunge is Feb. 2

Mesquite Police Department supports Special Olympics with Feb. 2 Polar Plunge


Donate to the Polar Plunge fundraising efforts of the Mesquite Police Department to support Special Olympics Texas. The Polar Plunge is at 8 a.m. Feb. 2, at City Lake Aquatic Center, 200 Parkview St. Recruit your friends, grab a costume and come out to support local athletes in the Greater Dallas area. Raise a minimum of $60 in donations ($30 if under age 18) from friends, family and co-workers for the opportunity to take the icy cold Polar Plunge.
