Memorial Day Service and closures

On May 29, the City of Mesquite will host a Memorial Day Service at the Mesquite Veterans Memorial, 425 S. Galloway Ave. The brief program will honor the men and women who died while serving in the United www.cityofmesquite.com/Holidays. States armed forces and will begin at 2:55 p.m. to coincide with National Moment of Remembrance. Attendees are encouraged to arrive no later than 2:50 p.m. to allow time to park and enter the memorial area, and to bring folding chairs, if needed. 

Also, all City offices and facilities with exception of the Mesquite Metro Airport will be closed on May 29 in recognition of Memorial Day. No trash or recycling collected. Mayor of Mesquite challenges kids to read 1,000 pages this summer

Mayor Daniel Alemán invites all Mesquite kids ages 5-12 to join the Mesquite Mayor 1,000-Page Reading Challenge this summer. The challenge, which coincides with the Mesquite Public Library System’s Summer Reading Club, which will run from June 1 to July 31. Kids who read 1,000 pages or more will be invited to a pizza party on Aug. 5 with the Mayor to receive a certificate and prizes. Kick Off parties launching the Summer Reading Club will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, at the Main Library, 300 W. Adults 50+ Cookout to be held on 

May 30

Enjoy free hamburgers, fun, and fellowship, and celebrate #OlderAmericansMonth at the Adults 50+ Cookout from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at City Lake Park, 200 Parkview St. Celebrate Mesquite’s senior community members  and learn more about the adult 50+ programs the City offers throughout the year.

Parks and Recreation Department offers summer camps for kids

The City of Mesquite is offering summer camps through August 4 for children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade. Teen Camp is also available this year for youth aged 12-15. Campers will enjoy field trips, indoor and outdoor activities, swim days, and crafts. Camps are open to both residents and non-residents of Mesquite.
