Mesquite Recycles Day
Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. will hold Mesquite Recycles Day at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive. The free event provides Mesquite residents the opportunity to drop off a variety of reusable items, electronic-waste and offers professional document shredding. Downtown Mesquite wins award
Downtown Mesquite was honored Wednesday, Nov. 2, with the Best Economic Game Changer Award at the Texas Downtown conference in San Marcos. The Front Street Station project received the honor due to its economic development impact, including a new restaurant, property sales, leases and property improvements. Mesquite BBQ was a finalist for Best Downtown Business in the competition, which drew more than 140 entries statewide.

Properly dispose of fats, oils and grease during the holidaysFats, Oils and Grease (FOG) is the residue left over from cooking meat, butter, sauces, oil and dairy products. FOG and debris poured down drains can cause expensive sewer backups to homeowners. Used holiday cooking oil may be recycled for free at the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, or at a drop-off location listed on the Defend Your Drains website at www.defendyourdrainsnorthtexas.com. Parks and Recreation Turkey CampOver Thanksgiving break, students in kindergarten through sixth grade can spend a day or the whole week playing games, creating holiday crafts, and experiencing other fun activities. Turkey Camp will be available at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 21 - 25 (no camp on Thursday, Nov. 24).
